HUDSON-MARLBOROUGH SCHOOL SPIRIT 2010
A 5 KILOMETER RUN & WALK

It all began with a football game on October 24, 1906 when the "Orange and Blacks from Marlboro met the "Red and Whites" from Hudson at Prospect Park in Marlboro.  103 years later, the athletic rivalry between Hudson and Marlboro High Schools, the fourth oldest rivalry in the State, has blossomed into both a friendly and spirited competition in nearly every sport in the three sports seasons at both schools.

In the spirit of celebrating this longstanding rivalry, the Highland City Striders, a local Hudson - Marlboro running club are pleased to announce the Second Annual Hudson - Marlboro School Spirit 5 Kilometer Walk & Run is planned for Saturday, November 27th, at 10AM at the Elks Club in Hudson.  The race course is a moderately hilly 5 kilometer track that starts at the Elks Club and then goes through the tree-lined avenues across from Hudson High School and then on into the beautiful Brigham Hills Estates neighborhood and returning to the Elks Club.  100% of the proceeds from this race will go to the Elks Scholarship fund that provides scholarships to deserving college-bound seniors at our Hudson & Marlborough high schools.  At stake is the School Spirit Award Trophy, which will be given to the school with the greatest number of participants at the contest.  In addition, medals will be given to top performers in the run and the walk.

Last year, Hudson took home the Inaugural School Spirit Award trophy and the overall race winner was 2007 Hudson High alumnus Connor Grogan who covered the course in 16:08, with Marlborough alumnus Sonny Gamble close behind.  The top female runner was Hudson’s Mary Beth Ryan, who set the female course record at 20:29.

This year's meeting of the Hudson and Marlborough football teams will the 107th meeting between the two teams and this race is a tribute to the proud legacy that is fourth oldest athletic rivalry in the State and a chance to honor all of the Hudson & Marlborough athletes & coaches who have participated in this rivalry over these many years..  The beauty of the race is that it gives everyone in Hudson and Marlborough a chance to be a participant in this historic rivalry.

Race participants who register by October 31st are guaranteed to be provided with a great looking shirt commemorating this race.  While this race is principally organized for residents, alumni, and current high school students, teachers, and parents, it is open to the general public as well, who are eligible to compete for race medals. Medals will be awarded to the first three places for runners and for first place in the walker category in the following age groups: Students -18 and under, Open - 19-39, Masters - 40-49, and Seniors (50+).
